NoMod Shaders: Minecraft 26.3 Shaders Without Mods (My Own Pack)
NoMod Shaders: my own shaders for Minecraft 26.3, no mods needed
My own pack for Minecraft Java 26.3: waving leaves and grass, golden sunsets, warm torch light, glow and soft shadows, with no Iris, no OptiFine and no mod loader. Three looks you switch in-game, my FPS numbers and how to install it.
Tested on Minecraft 26.3, NoMod Shaders 0.6.0, November 1, 2026, RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, render distance 12, 1920 x 1080. How I test

NoMod Shaders is my own pack for Minecraft Java 26.3. It gives the game a shader look without a single mod: leaves and grass wave in the wind, sunsets turn the landscape golden, torches glow warm, and bright light blooms. It’s a resource pack plus a small data pack, built on the post effects and core shaders that Minecraft 26.3 supports out of the box. Free, MIT licensed, and because it’s my own work, you won’t find it in any of my rankings.
What NoMod Shaders does
- Waving leaves and grass: grass, ferns and oak-type leaves move in the wind, with slow gusts across the land. Stone, logs, water and flowers stay still.
- Light distance haze: the near range stays crisp, the middle distance gets a light haze. At the edge of your render distance it’s exactly vanilla, so far hills and coastlines stay readable.
- Golden hour and moonlight: the whole landscape turns golden while the sun goes down. Nights get a cool, bright blue moonlight instead of vanilla’s dark grey.
- Warm block light: torches, lanterns, campfires and candles light their surroundings in amber.
- Glow, contact shadows and colour: soft bloom on the sun and light sources, soft shading in corners and under ledges, richer colours.
- Depth of field in the Cinematic look: whatever is in the middle of the screen stays sharp, the rest blurs like a camera lens.
Three looks, switched in-game
You switch per player with a command, no operator rights needed:
/trigger shaders_lite: wind, haze, warm light, a light glow, close to vanilla and the fastest./trigger shaders_default: adds contact shadows, cool shadows and a stronger glow. This one is on when you join./trigger shaders_cinematic: film look with strong contrast and depth of field./trigger shaders_off: screen effects off. Wind, haze and warm light stay while the resource pack is on.
My test results
I measured all looks on November 1, 2026, in my world on Minecraft 26.3: the same 8-second slow camera move high over a valley at noon, FPS read from the F3 screen once it settled. Test system: RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, NVIDIA driver 617.14, 1920 x 1080, render distance 12, with my recording software running.
| Look | FPS |
|---|---|
| Vanilla (no packs) | about 440 |
| Lite | about 430 to 445 |
| Default | about 340 to 380 |
| Cinematic | about 265 to 335 (average about 295) |
Lite costs almost nothing on my PC. Default takes roughly a fifth of the frame rate, Cinematic the most, because of the depth of field. My goal was 300 FPS for every look on this PC, and Cinematic landed just under it on average. For comparison, a full shader pack with Iris costs a lot more; my numbers for that are on my Iris page.
Honest limits
- No real sun shadows, no reflections, no volumetric light rays, no water waves. Those need a shader mod like Iris.
- Vanilla shaders don’t know which block they draw, so the pack finds plants by their biome colour and shape. Cherry, azalea and pale oak leaves have no biome colour and stay still, and so do spruce and birch leaves and flowers. Tall two-block plants bend per block.
- Contact shadows and depth of field only know what’s on screen.
- It replaces three of the game’s own shader files. Other packs that change the same files will conflict, and the one higher in the pack list wins.
- Java Edition 26.3 only.
Compatibility
- Minecraft: Java Edition 26.3 only. Bedrock and Pocket Edition can’t load Java resource packs.
- Mods: none needed. With Sodium or Iris installed: not tested yet.
- Other resource packs: texture packs work together with it. Packs that replace
fog.glsl,lightmap.fshorterrain.vshconflict, the higher one in the list wins. - Graphics setting: no “Fabulous” graphics needed.
- Servers: the data pack goes into the world, every player needs the resource pack (a server resource pack works too).
How to install NoMod Shaders
- Download the resource pack and the data pack (same version) from the official CurseForge page in the box. Modrinth is coming soon, the upload is in review.
- Put the resource pack ZIP into
.minecraft/resourcepacksand turn it on under Options → Resource Packs. Step by step with screenshots: How to install resource packs in Minecraft 26.3. - New world: in Create World, click Data Packs and drag the data pack ZIP in. Existing world: put it into
saves/<your world>/datapacksand type/reload. - Done. The Default look turns on by itself.
Only want one file? Use the “always on” resource pack instead of both files, never together with the data pack. Prefer a still world? Use the “no wind” resource pack instead of the normal one.
Alternatives
- The full shader experience: Iris with a shader pack, on top of Sodium. Much more realistic, much heavier.
- More vanilla-friendly packs: my 5 best resource packs for 26.3, none of them needs a mod either.
- More FPS first: my FPS mods test for 26.3.
Verdict
NoMod Shaders is for players who want Minecraft to look warmer and more alive without installing a mod loader. Pros: no mods, works on servers, three looks, Lite almost free. Cons: no real shadows or reflections, some leaves don’t move, Java 26.3 only.
Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.

FAQ
Is NoMod Shaders a mod?
No. It’s a resource pack plus a small data pack. You don’t need Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Iris or OptiFine.
Which Minecraft versions does it work on?
Java Edition 26.3 only. Mojang says that post effects and core shaders can change at any time, so a new Minecraft version can break the pack until I update it.
Does it work on Bedrock or Pocket Edition?
No, it’s Java only. On Bedrock, the built-in Vibrant Visuals option is the closest thing.
Do I need both files?
For switching looks, yes: the resource pack draws the effects, the data pack adds the /trigger commands. If you only want one file, use the “always on” resource pack instead. It shows the Default look all the time, without the data pack.
Does it replace Iris or OptiFine?
No. Real sun shadows, reflections and water waves need a shader mod. NoMod Shaders is a lighter look for players who don’t want a mod loader.
Can I turn the wind off?
Yes. Use the “no wind” resource pack instead of the normal one. Same look, leaves and grass stay still.
Does it work with Sodium or Iris?
I haven’t tested that yet. You don’t need either of them for this pack. If you play with an Iris shader pack, that shader pack replaces the look anyway.
Does it work on servers?
Yes. The data pack goes into the server world, and every player needs the resource pack (a server resource pack works too).
Why isn't it in your rankings?
Because it’s my own pack. I don’t rank my own work against the packs and mods I test.
