Hi, I’m Matthias, the guy behind the hat and the monocle. I hunt down the mods, packs and updates that are actually worth your time, try them out in the game and show you what they really do before you install anything.

It all started with Lukas

I didn’t find Minecraft. Minecraft found me, through my son Lukas. He pulled me into his worlds, and before long I wasn’t just watching over his shoulder anymore. Every parent who has ever been handed a controller “just for a minute” knows how that ends. And the software developer in me couldn’t stop asking what else this game could do.

What hooked us most were resource and texture packs: the same blocky world, suddenly medieval, cartoonish or almost photo-realistic. So we built a website about exactly that, Minecraft resource and texture packs. That site is long behind us, but one thing from those days stuck with me: you want to see a pack or a mod in the game before you download it, and you want a download link you can trust.

The hunt today

The Mod Hunter is the next chapter, and the hunting ground got a lot bigger: Minecraft mods, resource packs, shaders and every new update and snapshot, and since Update 7 also Hytale. More games will follow wherever there’s a modding scene worth exploring.

How every find gets tested

  • Real gameplay. Every mod and pack is installed and shown in our own channel world, on the current game version.
  • Facts from the source. Versions, loaders and requirements come straight from the official project pages on Modrinth, CurseForge and GitHub, and game updates from minecraft.net and hytale.com.
  • Official downloads only. Every download link goes to the original project page. No re-uploads, no mirrors.
  • Stable versions first. If something is still a beta or a demo, I tell you.
  • A page for every video. Install steps, versions and links are written down here, so you don’t have to pause a video to copy anything.
  • English and German. The videos are in English, and long videos come with German titles, descriptions and subtitles on YouTube.

Behind the hat

I’ve been writing software since 1997 and run Codixio, my small software business in a village in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The recording setup, the channel world and this website are all built in-house, which is the developer’s way of saying: if something breaks, it’s on me.
