Whimscape keeps Minecraft at its default 16x resolution and redraws it as crisp, fresh pixel art with a little extra color. The author describes it as “fresh but familiar”: things stay recognizable and mostly close to the default colors. It works in vanilla Minecraft 26.3 without mods. In my texture pack video it is number 4.

What Whimscape changes

  • Completely retextured: every block gets a new texture, with random variants for many of them.
  • Custom models for many blocks and items, plus textures for item variants like axolotl buckets and single-enchantment books.
  • A custom font and a clean GUI with less blindingly bright panels.
  • Small quality of life touches: a less obstructive shield and fire effect in first person, hoppers that show their direction from above, and a glint on waxed blocks in the inventory.
  • Extras with OptiFine or an alternative: emissive textures, custom entity models, custom sky and fog colors, connected glass and portal textures.

Whimscape for Minecraft 26.3

The current release is 26.1-26.3_r2 from September 16, 2026, about 5 MB. Whimscape has over 1 million downloads on Modrinth. The author also offers add-on packs, for example for Fresh Animations and for leaves. All rights are reserved by the author, so I link only the official page.

How to install a texture pack

  1. Download the zip from the official Modrinth page. Don’t unpack it.
  2. In Minecraft, open Options, then Resource Packs, and click Open Pack Folder.
  3. Drop the zip into that folder.
  4. Back in the game, move the pack to the right (Selected). If you combine it with smaller packs, keep Whimscape at the bottom of your selected packs.

FAQ

Is Whimscape available for Minecraft 26.3?

Yes. Version 26.1-26.3_r2 covers Minecraft 26.1 to 26.3 and was published on Modrinth on September 16, 2026.

Do I need OptiFine or a mod for Whimscape?

No. The textures, models and GUI work in vanilla Minecraft. Emissive textures, custom entity models, custom colors and connected glass textures need OptiFine or an alternative.

Can I use Whimscape on a server or in videos?

Yes, the author allows both in the FAQ on the Modrinth page.
