Fast Better Grass turns the sides of grass blocks green, the way OptiFine’s Better Grass does, but as a plain resource pack. No mods, no OptiFine: it works in vanilla Minecraft 26.3. In my video on the best resource packs for 26.3 it is number 1.
What Fast Better Grass changes
- Grass blocks: the sides use the top texture, so hills and terraces look like one green surface instead of grass stripes on dirt.
- More blocks: snowy grass blocks, dirt paths, podzol, mycelium and warped and crimson nylium get the same treatment.
- Paths: dirt paths spread onto the block below, so village paths look more seamless.
- Light: it only uses vanilla block models and adds no new textures, so it works with other texture packs and the file stays tiny. Its author says it even gives a minor performance boost.
Put it at the very top
In the resource pack list, its description says it must be the first to work. Packs higher up in the list win, so a pack above it that brings its own grass block models can undo the effect. Keep Fast Better Grass at the top, above a full texture pack like Faithful 32x, together with Round Trees, which also wants to be on top; they change different blocks.
Fast Better Grass for Minecraft 26.3
The current release is version 26.3 from September 15, 2026, for Minecraft 26.3. With over 13 million downloads it is the most downloaded pack in my top 5. It is made by robotkoer and released under the MIT license; I link only the official page.
How to install a resource pack
- Download the zip from the official Modrinth page. Don’t unpack it.
- In Minecraft, open Options, then Resource Packs, and click Open Pack Folder.
- Drop the zip into that folder.
- Back in the game, move the pack to the right (Selected) and put it on top of the list.
